From San Juan Basin ay Gartner joined by Sky Stephens, CSFS entomologist  talking about insects and diseases that affect trees in Southwest Colorado, including the Douglas fir beetle and the western spruce bud worm.  The meeting will be at 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 11, at the Vallecito Community Events Center at Lake Vallecito.

The Kids 4 Trees organization, http://www.kids4trees.org/ , has scheduled at least one event in each Forest Service Region. The program here is sponsored by the San Juan Public Lands, San Juan Mountains Association and Music in the Mountains.  On May 20, the sponsoring organizations will have 200 kids come out to the lake and plant 300 trees. At the present time they are recruiting adult volunteers to help plant the trees.
